Syllabus Week 6

Mr. Ditzenberger-Church History
Lesson: Acts 8
Unit 2
Week: 6 Dates: September 17-21
Objectives:
1. Students will analyze the differences between magic and Christianity.
2. Students will watch a video about the growth of the church in China that has been fueled, in part, by persecution. They will assess the factors of the growth based on the information in the video.
3. Students will summarize the life of Paul before he was converted.
4. Students will learn about modern day miraculous conversions.

Monday
Chalk Talk: Does the gospel spread more effectively during times of peace or during times of persecution and conflict? Use your knowledge of history, Christianity in your own country, and missions?
Read Acts 8.
Discussion of Simon and magic.
Difference between magic and Christianity-create list in groups and then make a complete list as a class.

Tuesday
Persecution video.

Wednesday
Opener: What are three things you learned from the video yesterday?
Finish video.
Making a list, answer the question: What can be learned about how to evangelize through this story?

Thursday
1. If a person makes a major change in their life, what factors cause them to change?
2. Read Acts 9: 1-19. Make observations.
3. Each student look up Acts 22:19-20, Acts 26:9-11, I Cor 15:9, Gal 1:13, 22-23, Phil 3:6, I Tim 1:13. Take notes on each passage. Write a paragraph summarizing Paul before his conversion.
4. Homework: Find a story on the internet or somewhere else (someone other than your own) and be prepared to share it tomorrow. The story should be able to be told in five or few minutes.

Friday
Opener: Read Acts 9:1-22 again and make a list of what you learn about Jesus from this passage.
Share conversion stories.
Play CD of conversion.
