Martyrs Project

Church History Quarter 1 Project

Stephen’s life instigated the growth of the church in a phenomenal way. God has similarly used the lives of other martyrs to accomplish his purposes among countries and groups of people. Martyrdom is not just a topic for the history books. There are more believers dying because of their relationship to Christ today than ever before.

For your first quarter assignment, choose a martyr (or a group of martyrs) from the list below (or get approval of another martyr of your choice). Create a PowerPoint presentation that informs your audience/classmates about the person. Here are some ideas:

1. the accomplishments of the person’s life
2. the events surrounding their death
3. what their death accomplished (how did God use their death to bring glory and people to him)
4. information that would help us get to know the person better-his/her hobbies, books they have written or have been written about them, their childhood, how they have inspired you.

And must include:
5. a bibliography (try http://citationmachine.net/ if you need a great online tool for help with this) at the end of the presentation that has at least three sources, one of which should be a non-internet source.* See http://www.andover.edu/library/AcadInteg/plagiarism.htm for information on plagiarism.
6. a hardy copy of the PPT slides submitted to me (you can print in handout form and with black and white).
7. notes taken while you researched (they can be taken in any form or style that you like, as long as they are legible).
8. is 10-15 minutes long.
9. Submitted and presented by the 3rd or October (the presentation may not be given by the 4th).

*Before you spend too much time researching, make sure you can find at least three sources that meet the qualifications. If not, switch people.

Bae Hyung-kyu of Korea, Jim Elliot of USA, Dietrich Bonhoeffer of Germany, Janan Luwum of Africa, Martin Burnham of USA, Nate Saint of USA, Andrew Kim Tae-gon of Korea, John Hus of Czechoslovakia, Thomas Cranmer of England, Nicholas Ridley of England, Perpetua and Felicitas (separate or together) of the Roman Empire, Necati Aydin of Turkey, the Twenty-Six Martyrs of Japan, the Martyrs of Korea (these can be done as a group).
